The Imperial Garden

The Imperial Garden sits on the sixth floor of the western elevation, its principal window looking northeast across the roofline toward the Imperial Palace's moat and the dark pines of the East Gardens. The room applies the logic of a Kyoto private residence — nothing superfluous, nothing underconsidered. Walls in hand-woven Nishijin silk, a deep charcoal-and-stone weave that changes register under morning and evening light. Oya stone floors, sealed to a warm honey. Bespoke furniture by a Kyoto joiner: a writing desk in lacquered keyaki elm, a bedside table in patinated iron, a low chest with bronze pulls. The Oya stone bathroom pairs a walk-in rainfall shower in brushed steel with a freestanding deep hinoki soaking tub positioned beside the window. A room that occupies itself fully without requiring anything from its guest.
